Axis Theatre Company has just announced that the ever-popular, wacky, zany side-splitting world-renowned show The Number 14 is coming back to Vancouver. If you haven’t caught this bus this might be your last chance July 2-26 at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island.
Quite a Canadian success story, The Number 14 is an amazing theatrical tour-de-force where six of Vancouver’s finest performers strut, swing, sing and talk their way in and out of adventures aboard Vancouver’s #14 bus that is part Monty Pythonesque, part Mr. Bean and wholly engaging.
When asked about the possibility of this being a farewell tour Artistic Director Wayne Specht stated – “ With all of the fuss around all of the new underground transit this year we thought it was totally appropriate to get the bus rolling again and we are glad that we have an amazing list of passengers on the bus . Will it be our last time in Vancouver? Well you will have to ask Cher!”
The Number 14 earned a 1998 New York Drama Desk nomination in the Unique Theatrical Experience category. The production has also garnered four Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards, and a Dora Mavor Moore nomination.
The Number 14 originated in Vancouver as the brainchild of founding Artistic Director Wayne Specht along with Roy Surette. Stemming from a series of improvisational skits and showcasing the talents of some of Vancouver’s most loved physical performers, this slice of urban city life has been wowing audiences around the world since its debut in 1992.
The Number 14 is based on the “adventures” of an interesting collection of people who are the passengers of the Number 14 bus and for anyone that has ridden on the Vancouver transit system, you will probably recognize a few of them yourself.
