Leaping Thespians to present original comedy Once Upon a Lesbian

The Leaping Thespians are set to present their original comedy Once Upon A Lesbian at the Havana Theatre beginning the end of September.

This collectively written, one‐act comedy tells the story of two women from the future who are sent on a mission to recover a time capsule left behind from the Lesbian Collective, circa 2169.  Defying orders, the two explore the contents and artifacts from 100,000 B.C. to 2169 A.D. The stories in the artifacts reveal ‘the truth’ about lesbian herstory and is destined to change their lives forever more.

With over a dozen scenes, a cast of nine actors, six directors, and over 30 costumes the show is definitely a collaborative effort combing the talents of Artistic Directors Karen White, Taylor Stutchbury, Leigh Burrows, Eroca Zales, Jacqueline Becher, and Deloris Piper; Technical Direction by Kelly O, acted by Taylor Stutchbury, Leigh Burrows, Stephanie Kemp, Deloris Piper, Shiela Burns, Jacqueline Becher, Ria Nishikawara, Kiri McGuire, and Karen White; costumes by Leigh Burrows, lights by Matt Lees, props by Kari Gundersen, and sound by Shelley Gimble.

Once Upon a Lesbian

Prior to opening in Vancouver, the group will take the show on the road to Nanaimo on September 25 and 26 for a chance to workshop the play with a dramaturge under a new touring program offered by Theatre BC.

Leaping Thespians is a woman’s theatre company bringing stories of lesbians’ lives to Vancouver audiences. The company debuted in Nelson in the 1990s and has performed in Nelson, Vancouver, Kamloops and Nanaimo. In 2007 and 2008, The Leaping Thespians received a number of awards including Best Production wins at Theatre BC’s Greater Vancouver Zone Festival for Women4Women: A Play in Cyberspace (2007) and 8×10 Glossy (2008).
