Arts Club announces 2009/2010 touring season

For over 30 years, the Arts Club Theatre Company has been bringing professional theatre into communities throughout the province. Today, they announced their 2009/2010 touring season.

Arts Club Theatre CompanyThis season also marks the 20th anniversary of their tour subscription series, which began at the Surrey Arts Centre in 1989 and now includes Capilano Performing Arts Theatre (North Vancouver), Clarke Theatre (Mission), Evergreen Cultural Centre (Coquitlam), Kay Meek Centre (West Vancouver), ACT: Maple Ridge Arts Centre & Theatre, and Shadbolt Centre for the Arts (Burnaby). They also tour to Vernon, Kelowna, Nelson, and Cranbrook.

Artistic Managing Director Bill Millerd says, “Touring has been an important part of our activities since our first touring production, Ken Mitchell’s Cruel Tears, in 1977. Since we launched our first three-play subscription season in 1989 at the Surrey Arts Centre, we have built up a loyal subscription audience in partnership with venues across Metro Vancouver.”

Executive Director Howard Jang says, “Touring is one of our core businesses and was part of Bill’s extraordinary vision of bringing professional theatre to communities and towns throughout B.C. This significant activity provides us many opportunities to build enduring relationships with devoted audiences in each community.”

The 2009/2010 tour will bring a modern musical, a hilarious comedy, and a timeless love story to theatre lovers across the province with productions of The Thing About Men, Mom’s the Word: Remixed, and Salt-Water Moon.

October 10 – November 7, 2009

The thing about Tom is that he loves his wife, Lucy, even though he’s having a fling with his secretary. The thing about Lucy is that she’s fallen in love with Sebastian. Toss in some unlikely roommates and a gorilla mask, and this saucy musical-comedy tells an over-the-top tale of how far we’ll go to win back the ones we love. From the creators of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change comes another comical look at modern relationships.

Mom’s the Word: Remixed
January 8 – April 17, 2010

They’re back! The shockingly funny Moms reunite to bring you highlights from the smash hits Mom’s the Word and Mom’s the Word 2: Unhinged. In this premiere production, they’ll share their true, intimate tales of the heartache and joy of parenthood, from bun in the oven to the terrible twos to the terrifying teens.

March 1 – 29, 2010

A timeless love story unfolds on a moonlit porch in Coley’s Point, 1926. Young Jacob Mercer has returned home to Newfoundland to win back the heart of his soul mate, Mary. But can he overcome the forces that have kept them apart? Will love blossom by the light of a salt-water moon?
