Culinary Vancouver

Jostling with Toronto and Montreal for the pole position of top Canadian dining city, many visitors regard Vancouver as the hands-down winner for its far wider array of great ethnic food. This ranges from multi-course Chinese feasts to European-influenced tasting plates and perhaps the best sushi available outside Japan.

West Coast cuisine - also called Pacific Northwest cuisine - has also enjoyed a renaissance in the city in recent years, largely due to a rediscovery of the region's uniquely flavourful ingredients, including high-quality Fraser Valley meat and vegetables and distinctive Vancouver Island seafood. Local restaurants tend to fuse these regional delicacies with European or Asian influences and they are often expertly paired with some of B.C.'s popular selection of wine and beer. The province's Okanagan Valley is renowned for its wines, while several unique breweries dot Vancouver, Vancouver Island and the wider B.C. area.
