Let the new season begin!  The 2010/2011 theatre season is upon us, here is the line-up of some of the shows, including those with an LGBTQ! connection, set to play local stages in September and October 2010.

Our summer nights might be gone by the time Grease arrives in Vancouver in October but now is a great time to get your tickets before they go on sale to the general public!

The small space of Hardline Productions’ studio is the perfect venue for 12 Angry Men, putting us almost directly inside the small confines of the juror room with the actors, in what is a thoroughly entertaining evening of theatre.

Okay, I get it.  Capitalism bad. Socialism good.  While perhaps a bit preachy, the ITSAZOO production of Robin Hood – A Promenade Play pushes the boundaries of its social satire and theatre conventions by moving outdoors, immersing its audience into the story.

The cast of the Royal City Theatre Company’s production of No Sex Please, We’re British, give it everything they’ve got but they are simply no match for this bedroom farce that is as uncomfortable and lumpy as an old stained mattress.

Actor Jay Brazeau has some mighty big pantyhose to fill as he is set to star as Edna Turnblad in the Arts Club's anchor show Hairspray during its 2010/2011 season.

The Arts Club forgoes ending their 2009/2010 Stanley season with its usual lighter summer fare, with a definite heavyweight in David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross.  Anchored by the return of Eric McCormack to the Arts Club stage after 14 years, this potty-mouthed character study is simultaneously utterly repugnant and utterly fascinating.  Just like it should be.

For a group of actors that would only be a glimmer in their parent’s eyes during the 1960s, the energetic cast of Fighting Chance Productions’ Hair captures the free-spirited, counter-culture hippie movement with alarming ease and literally bare it all in this ambitious show.

Dave Deveau could just have easily called his Tiny Replicas, tiny reflections, as he holds up a mirror to his own life (and that of his partner Cameron Mackenzie), providing us with a very personal glimpse into queer baby making that is both touching and funny.

Bard on the Beach completes this year’s history cycle with its production of Henry V, and while for me not as strong as its counterpart Falstaff, it still entertains and primes us well for next year’s final installments.
