Theatre West Van, the North Shore's longest operating drama group, presents the final piece of its 2008/09 season, Table Manners at the Kay Meek Centre in West Vancouver through May 2nd, 2009. And while it was a very rocky start for the first half of act one, the actors, due in no small part to Kevin Scott's turn as Norman, finally found their groove in scene two resulting in an enjoyable evening of one of the three pieces from Alan Ayckbourn's The Norman Conquests.

Before there was the phenom that was Rent, Jonathan Larson wrote tick,tick... BOOM! in response to the failure of another of his works, Superbia. While tick,tick... BOOM! received a couple of workshop productions, ironically much like Superbia, the show was quickly eclipsed when Rent opened off-Broadway in 1996 and to Broadway itself that same year.

One of the biggest problems with theatre in Vancouver is the ability of some of the smaller companies to afford runs of any significant length. Unless you're one of the bigger players in town more-often-than-not you find your play relegated to only a few short performances; blink and they are gone.

James Fagan Tait brings a new translation and adaptation of Edmond Rostand's enduring Cyrano de Bergerac in a much darker version than what audiences might be used to in this classic love story but it does work in emphasizing the tragedy of a love never realized and indeed, love that is ultimately lost.
