A number of people have asked about our "star" rating for the theatre (and previously movie) reviews we do here at GayVancouver.Net (Gay Vancouver Online). What, you asked, do they actually mean? Here is our guide to help you understand them. First off, I should say that the original rating system was a simple one to five stars but as time went on I realized I was limiting myself so I gave myself a little "wiggle" room, essentially doubling the possible ratings. Here's how it breaks down. I've only included the five stars here but a half star rating, especially as you get to three stars and above mean there was something about that particular show that was just a tiny bit better than others at the same rating but not quite good enough for the full star.
Hope this helps! But remember, reviewing something can be very subjective. My reviews are simply my opinion. I grew up as part of the theatre scene and have an intense passion for it. I also like to write. These two passions come together in my reviews. I am lucky that I get to see lots of theatre and have this public forum that allows me to express my opinions. But in the end, they are just that, my opinions. Make up your own mind but above all else - go out and experience live theatre - you will be glad you did whether it rates one star or five. |
