The Food Gays

We’ll let you in on a little secret: The Food Gays are huge Big Brother fans and when we heard it was coming north for the first time we were eager to tune-in. And it didn’t disappoint with its usual cast of colourful characters that included the flamboyant Gary Levy, who mistakenly lost out on the $100,000 grand prize, and who we discovered also has a passion for food.

Last weekend we hit up another edition of Tasting Plates Vancouver, and while it continues to be one of our favorite food events in the city, this edition was unlike any before it.

Despite the April showers, spring is definitely in the air and we think it’s the perfect time to make some delicious treats to celebrate a season that we both love to bits.

Since beginning his blog nearly two years ago, writer and photographer Sean Neild has become one of the top food bloggers in Vancouver, dishing out restaurant and food advice in Sean’s Adventures In Flavor Town.

Last week we were contacted by the producer of myVancouver Eats, a television program that airs on Telus’ Optik Local channel, asking if we would be interested in filming a cooking demo for an upcoming episode.  Super excited knowing we’d join the likes of Harvest Union, The Last Crumb, Save On Meats, and Parallel 49 who had been previously featured on the show, we quickly said yes and arranged a date for the shoot.

In case you hadn't already figure it out, we’re pretty crazy about bananas (insert groan here).

He is the man behind Table Fifty-Two in Chicago, and Art and Soul in Washington, DC. He has cooked for the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Lady Gaga, President Obama, and the Dalai Lama. He’s been around the reality television block as a contestant on Bravo’s Top Chef, and showed off his incredible 120 pound weight-loss on Top Chef Masters. He is Chef Art Smith.

The Dine Out Vancouver Festival is currently in full swing, and with so many options available this year, it can be somewhat intimidating navigating the seemingly endless array of options. The great news is that depending on your budget, there’s pretty much something for everyone.

Seriously guys, it’s almost mid-January. If we don’t get on this New Year’s resolution thing soon, chances are it will be a lot of the same for 2013. Which wouldn’t be the worst thing ever, but let’s face it, we all could use a little sprucing up … and that’s the whole point of resolutions, right? Dropping your old habits, and picking up healthy new ones. A new day, a new gay!

If you haven’t been to Vancouver Christmas Market, you’ve probably been wondering what all the fuss is about. Back for its third year, the German themed pop-up market outside the Queen Elizabeth Theatre has been attracting big crowds, with people from all over the Lower Mainland flocking for its unique selection of hand-made crafts, ornaments and festive foods.
