GayVancouver.Net to present two screenings at film fest

As Silver Reel sponsors of the Vancouver Queer Film Festival, GayVancouver.Net (Gay Vancouver Online) has the pleasure of presenting two screenings during the 2009 festival.

This year GayVancouver.Net (Gay Vancouver Online) presents one of the two Donald Strachey double features, On The Other Hand, Death, on Saturday, August 15th and the debut work of director Jennifer Phang, Half Life, on August 22nd.

"We know that the audience attends the Festival to see the films, not listen to a bunch of speeches so we promise to make our introductions short and sweet and even give those in attendance a chance to win something!", said Mark Robins, Owner/Operator of GayVancouver.Net. "We're very excited by the shows we are presenting this year.  With cast and crew in attendance at On the Other Hand, Death and the uniqueness of Half Life we're sure that these will be two highlights from the 2009 Queer Film Fest!"

Adapted from Richard Stevenson’s gay mystery novels, the Donald Strachey films (now four in total) have quickly become a favourite with queer audiences. When Dorothy Fisher is suspended from her job as a high school counsellor it seems that homophobic parents are to blame. But when her suspension is followed by a home invasion, blackmail and murder, detective Donald Strachey (Chad Allen) takes the case.  Cast and crew in attendance.

A provocative fusion of science fiction and domestic drama, Half-Life centres on the dysfunctional Wu family, who live in a near-future Californian suburb threatened by global warming and worn out social morale. Eighteen-year-old Pam stages dramatic near-suicide attempts and crushes on her best friend Scott, a gay Korean adoptee who desperately wants his religious parents to acknowledge his sexuality.
