To get better, feel more confident, help your body to know and feel the dance, the movements, the particulars of the dance you're working on -- the memory of the dance. Sure, you'll learn, and improve, by going to class each week but still...the more you practice, the better you get!! /fontfamily> Where??/fontfamily> Make a commitment to yourself to go over the steps once a day, even if it's on your tiny kitchen floor -- if that's all the dance space you have. Practicing alone is important to work on steps, posture, weight balance, etc. Waiting for the bus, on an elevator?? Practice cuban movements, foot/ankle strengthening exercises. A bit of a stretch for practicing ballroom steps, but never say "never"!! Get together with a dance buddy or two, and practice wherever you can find space to do so, including outdoors. Organize a group and go to one of the many ballrooms around town who hold afternoon "T-Dances" for a $3 - $4 fee as well as evening dancing. e.g. Vancouver Ballroom on Prior St near Georgia Viaduct, Danny's on E. Pender, Fitness Centre on Fraser near 41st) |
