The Vancouver 2011 North America Outgames organizing committee has revealed the design for the medals to be given out for the sports element of the July games.

Vancouver 2011 North America Outgames medal designDesigned by renowned local artist Corinne Hunt, who was also the co-designer of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic medals, the design incorporates the Outgames theme of sea, land and sky represented by the orca, wolf's tail and raven.

"The design for the Outgames medal incorporates the beauty of the west coast environment," said Hunt whose contemporary work reflects her diverse interests and passions.  In addition to receiving international recognition for designing the Vancouver Olympic medals, Hunt was recently awarded the Aboriginal Achievement Award for the Arts.

Bringing Hunt's vision to life was local illustrator and graphic designer Carol Weaver.

"Corrine Hunt has captured the Outgames theme of land, sea and air beautifully with these medals.  Each winning competitor will go home with not only a record of their achievement, but a work of art crafted by one of Canada’s most gifted artists," said Outgames spokesperson Barb Snelgrove.
