The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Bramwell Tovey present an all-orchestral season finale on Saturday & Monday, June 12th & 14th with Stravinsky’s riot inducing Rite of Spring and Rimsky-Korsakov’s exotic fantasy Scheherazade.
Starting with catcalls, whistles and boos from the opening night crowd, the evening quickly escalated to shouting and fistfights in the aisles. Even the Paris police were only able to restore limited order. While scholars are divided on whether it was the music or accompanying dance which caused the riot, one thing is for sure: you won't see Maestro Tovey or the VSO decked out in full riot gear. Accompanying Rite of Spring is arguably Rimsky-Korsakov's most famous symphonic suite, Scheherazade, based on the book The Arabian Nights. Vancouver Symphony Orchestra's Season Finale |
