Monday, 09 January 2012

A new year and a whole new list of what we think are your best bets for things to do this week in Vancouver. Here are our gay choices for January 9 - 15, 2012.

Of course, you'll want to check our Events Calendar for details of all the latest happenings around the city. You can also get our daily events feed directly on your iGoogle homepage! Got an event? Send us the details and we'll get it added to our calendar (and maybe see it listed here in the coming weeks).

MONDAY, 9 January: New Animal

Discovering their inner animal through dance, The 605 Collective presents a new work that has us hoping for a full moon: "suffused with raw, unbridled energy, groove, ludic interaction and a hunger for movement, the performers reclaim their animal bodies as a means of becoming fully human."  Visit http://www.thecultch.com for tickets and information.

TUESDAY, 10 January: Waiting For Godot!

Waiting For GodotYou're either like me and can enjoy a good Beckett or like my partner who breaks out in hives about the mere mention of this play about nothing and everything.  But who better to give this aburdist play a work-out than Vancouver's Blackbird Theatre, who made our top ten list last year for its production of Who's Afraid of Virginai Woolf? I just hope that with all the waiting the magazines are at least current.  Visit http://www.blackbirdtheatre.ca for more information.

THURSDAY, 12 January: All The Way Home

All The Way HomeThe team that brought us the much talked about Tear the Curtain in 2010 and the dazzling Studies in Motion in 2009 returns with their newest work where the audience is quite literally in the center of the action on-stage at the QE Theatre.  Visit http://www.electriccompanytheatre.com for tickets and information.

FRIDAY, 13 January: Anagnoson & Kinton

We recognize that not everyone works to the same 9 to 5 schedule that we do and so do the good people at Music in the Morning who present coffee-fueled concerts in the morning at the Vancouver Academy of Music.  This week piano-duo extraordinaire Anagnoson & Kinton play works by Schubert & Rachmaninov.  Visit http://www.musicinthemorning.org for tickets and information.

Not So Strictly Ballroom

Not So Strictly Ballroom, Vancouver's only ballroom dance organization for the LGBTQ community and friends, returns with another eight week course featuring the waltz, cha-cha and rumba.  A great social activity as well as exercise you can find out more by visiting http://www.notsostrictlyballroom.ca.

SUNDAY, 15 January: 20th Century Flea Market

One of the major reasons flea markets are so popular today is because they're the ultimate in earth-friendly shopping ... not to mention a bargain hunter's nirvana! This fun collector's market is the largest of it's kind in BC, with over 175 vendor tables jam-packed with vintage goods.  Visit http://www.21cpromotions.com for more information.
