Talk about diversity! Classical music, drag queens, theatre, go-go boys, and even Shakespeare-with-a-twist are all on tap for the week. Here are our gay choices of things to do the week of May 9 - 15, 2011. Of course, you'll want to check our Events Calendar for details of all the latest happenings around the city. You can also get our daily events feed directly on your iGoogle homepage! Got an event? Send us the details and we'll get it added to our calendar (and maybe see it listed here in the coming weeks). monday, 9 May: VSO - Mozart Piano Concerto With Alessio BaxThe Vancouver Symphony Orchestra's season is quickly coming to a close with just over a month left to take in one of their concerts. This concert features Kazuyoshi Akiyama leading the Orchestra and the handsome Alessio Bax on piano. And just like iTunes you can now sample before you buy, by listening to some of the music clips from the show on the Symphony's website. Tuesday, 10 may: the rhinestone stiletto show
Wednesday, 11 may: Love/StoriesNot only is Vancouver lesbian Genevieve Bolduc backstage as Assistant Stage Manager, we just couldn't pass up on anything that is described as both "painful" and "funny". And while the love stories might be about straight people, I'm pretty sure we can all relate ... but even if you can't, you can always go to laugh at the silliness of straight relationships. Check out our interview with Genevieve and then go meet your future ex-husband. thursday, 12 may: we like boys
friday, 13 may: vancouver's mens chorus: duetsThe Vancouver Men’s Chorus teams up with Pandora’s Vox in a not-to-be-missed cabaret celebration of tunes about two-ness! Duelling divas and duelling divos (yes, we are told by the VMC that "divos" is indeed a real word) from stage, screen and your iPod come together where "nothing is spared and nothing is sacred". This one-man show features Rick Miller's impression of over 50 voices from TV’s The Simpsons in a hilarious performance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. We understand that while never actually endorsed by Simpsons creator Matt Groening, he is such a huge fan of this show he never released the hounds (of lawyers) to put a stop to the silliness. Quick though, the show is only around today and tomorrow. D'oh! Visit http://www.vancouverplayhouse.com for tickets and information. sunday, 15 may: 21st century flea marketWith 175 different vendors and 185 tables packed full of 20th century junque, this could very well be any collectors wet dream. Kitsch, kollectibles and kitchenalia are all up for grabs and who knows, that little treasure you find just might make you onto the next episode of the Antiques Roadshow.
