Another diverse week in the most beautiful city in the world. The highlight this week may be the start of the Vancouver Queer Film Fest but there are plenty of other things to keep you busy when you need a break from the sun (now that it is finally here)! Here are our gay choices for the week of August 8 - 14, 2011. Of course, you'll want to check our Events Calendar for details of all the latest happenings around the city. You can also get our daily events feed directly on your iGoogle homepage! Got an event? Send us the details and we'll get it added to our calendar (and maybe see it listed here in the coming weeks). monday, 8 august: julius caesarBefore they can even think about performing under the big tents at Vanier Park, the actors need to get their training somewhere. Each summer Carousel Theatre brings together a group of teens from across British Columbia to participate in its Teen Shakespeare program. The teens go through a four-week intensive rehearsal period followed by in a show on Granville Island. This year the group does Julius Caesar. From what we saw ourselves on the weekend there are definitely a few Bard on the Beach's Christopher Gaze will have his eye on for the future. We dare you not to cry at Portia's first speech! Visit http://www.carouseltheatre.com for more information. Tuesday, 9 august: clean sheets: unstuck
Wednesday, 10 AUGUST: average joesA casual, friendly and supportive social group for HIV+ men, this gathering takes place at every Wednesday night at Numbers from 8 - 11pm. friday, 12 august: sea of sand - a play on the beachIs it just us or has anyone else noticed there seems to be a bit of a trend in Vancouver's theatre community lately. We've seen theatre in a parking garage, a private house and now on the beach at Spanish Banks. This may also be Vancouver's first sustainable theatre production using props sourced from the beach itself plus both pedal-power and solar energy. And who couldn't argue with a more beautiful backdrop - the Pacific Ocean. Visit http://www.theonlyanimal.com for more information. saturday, 13 august: new westminster pride - follow the rainbow
sunday, 14 august: music in the gardenWhen is the last time you actually stopped to smell the flowers? We'll, here is your chance in a fun day that is designed for even the smallest member of your chosen family. So, slap the sunscreen on the kids and head out to VanDusen Gardens for an afternoon of flower smelling and music. Visit http://www.musicfestvancouver.ca for more information. |
