Watersports, women's conference and the return of the Fringe join an anniversary celebration and a fundraiser as part of another diverse week of events in Vancouver. Here are our gay choices for September 5 - 11, 2011. Of course, you'll want to check our Events Calendar for details of all the latest happenings around the city. You can also get our daily events feed directly on your iGoogle homepage! Got an event? Send us the details and we'll get it added to our calendar (and maybe see it listed here in the coming weeks). MONDAY, 5 SEPTEMBER: LABOUR DAYWith so many restaurants, shops and services open on Monday it is surprising that we hold on to the old notion that this day somehow celebrates the economic and social achievements of workers. In Canada we have observed Labour Day the first Monday in September since the 1880s. Labour Day in Canada orginiated in 1872 when a protest parade was held in Toronto to support a strike by the Toronto Typographical Union. For more information on Labour Day visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_Day and thanks to all the hardworking folk that will serve us our lattes, our groceries, our meals and more on a day that is supposed to celebrate you! TUESDAY, 6 SEPTEMBER: DEEP COVE PADDLEBOAT RACES
