Monday, 05 December 2011

Christmas is definitely are around the corner as this week features a variety of holiday entertainment and a couple of parties. Here are our gay choices for December 5 - 11, 2011.

Of course, you'll want to check our Events Calendar for details of all the latest happenings around the city. You can also get our daily events feed directly on your iGoogle homepage! Got an event? Send us the details and we'll get it added to our calendar (and maybe see it listed here in the coming weeks).

MONDAY, 5 December:The Patron Saint of Stanley Park

The homeless living in Stanley Park will come as no surprise to Vancouverites.  But Bigfoot and aliens?  In the fertile mind of playwright Hiro Kanagawa, all three live happily amongst the trees in The Patron Saint of Stanley Park, a family-friendly tale based on the stories of Saint Nicholas of Myra, protector of children and the real-life model for our modern Santa Claus.  This localized tale of family, love and the true meaning of the Christmas spirit is a wonderful, dare I say "skookum", addition to the holiday theatre season.  Visit http://www.artsclub.com for tickets and information.

TUESDAY, 6 December: After Jerusalem

After JerusalemLike opening a perfect tiny Christmas present, the Solo Collective production of After Jerusalem is so bursting with surprises and delight that you’ll wish all your future gifts were as funny, poignant and beautifully performed.  Give yourself an early Christmas present and un-wrap After Jerusalem for yourself and with Tuesday 2 for 1 night this will probably be the best value holiday gift you'll see all season!  Visit http://www.solocollective.ca for tickets and information.

WEDNESDAY, 7 December: Tomboy

When ten-year-old Laure moves to a new neighbourhood for the summer holidays, she impetuously introduces herself to the local kids as Michael, a boy.  This little gem from Water Lillies director Sciammi has such an unassuming way about it you might almost miss her shrewd insights into gender stereotypes. And the performances from young Zoe Heran and Malonn Levana (as her six year old sibling) are simply delightful.  Visit http://www.viff.org for exact dates and showtimes.
