monday, 30 May: vancouver international children's festival

After 33 years at Vanier Park the Vancouver International Children's Festival is making the move to Granville Island!  Organizers say this year is the opportunity to provide the necessary environment to bring the Festival into the 21st century.  We just think it is an inspired move as the Island remains a cultural hub and a beautiful location to provide a jam-packed week of international and local music, theatre, dance, acrobatics, puppetry and more for the whole family.  Visit http://www.childrensfestival.ca for more information.

Tuesday, 31 may: hot guys read twilight

Hot Guys Read TwilightAfter the successsful premiere of the "Hot Guys Read" series last month with readings from Suzanne Somer's new book, organizers are doing it again.  This month sixteen "hot men" will participate in an evening of vampires and werewolves in readings from the "Twilight" series of novels. This is one night you'll definitely not want to miss as GayVancouver.Net's very own Mark Robins reads from the original book. Wednesday, 1 JUne: Dare  You

Vancouver Theatresports and Pi Theatre are putting together a unique fundraiser which will not only consist of the usual food, drink, silent auction and door prizes, but also a group of brave souls will help raise funds by taking part in a number of "dares" inspired by some legendary phobias.  For those that don't want to miss the first Canucks final game they promise to show the game before the real fun starts. thursday, 2 June: Wicked

WickedThe Witches of Oz finally make an appearance in Vancouver as Broadway Across Canada presents the musical sensation Wicked opening tonight through June 26.  Winner of 35 major awards including three Tonys and even a Grammy, Wicked tells the story of Oz before Dorothy arrived.  Just like that other music phenom Rent a few years back, a small number of $25 orchestra tickets will be available by lottery each night of the run.  Some regular price tickets are still available through Ticketmaster.  And yes, there will be Munchkins!

friday, 3 June: community dinner

One part cooking show, one part biography, one part dinner party, Community Dinner from the innovative Rumble Productions, is a celebration of what lies at the core of most every culture: storytelling and food.  Over the past three months, newcomers to Canada and theatre artists have met, taught each other a recipe and created a piece of theatre from that collaboration.  The audience will not only have an opportunity to experience the stories behind the food but they will also share in a four-dish meal with the performers after the show.  This one puts a whole new spin on the term dinner theatre!  Visit http://rumble.org for more information.

saturday, 4 June: fit for a queen

Fit For A Queen

The Shooting Stars Foundation, who have been raising funds for people with HIV/AIDS since 1985, presents its 10th Annual Fit For A Queen show featuring 18+ of Vancouver's best drag stars and female impersonators in one evening of glitter and glam.  We honestly don't think there has been this many queens in one place since Elton John hosted his pre-wedding party for William and Kate.  Visit http://www.shootingstarsfoundation.org for tickets and information.

sunday, 5 June: the hangout- Fundraiser For Dr Peter AIDS Foundation

Host Syren and DJs Adam Dreaddy, Jeffery Michael, Landon James, Mumbles and Quest will make this Sunday afternoon one to remember with plenty of cocktails, door prizes, a silent auction and even an art show.  100% of the proceeds from this tea dance goes to support the work of the Dr Peter AIDS Foundation, providing help for those living with HIV/AIDS.  Visit http://www.drpeter.org for more information.
