MONDAY, 27 February: Intimate Apparel

Described by our theatre reviewer as "a timeless and heart-felt tribute to a grandmother" this Arts Club presentation tells the story of Esther, an African-American woman in 1905 New York who has been supporting her dream of opening a beauty parlor by sewing undergarments for women at every rung of the socio-economic ladder. After receiving a letter from a suitor laboring on the Panama Canal, the illiterate Esther enlists the help of two of her clients, a lonely socialist and a prostitute, to begin her romantic correspondence. TUESDAY, 28 February: HunchBack

Edmonton's Catalyst Theatre opens a can of its theatrical secret sauce that explores a much darker side to this love story in what our reviewer called "the film Disney would have made if Mickey Mouse had balls". Visit http://www.vancouverplayhouse.com for tickets and information.

WEDNESDAY, 29 February: Pride Movie Night

Happy Leap Year everyone! This extra day in 2012 means Pride Movie Night at the Denman Cinemas. This monthly LGBTQ movie screening sees half of all ticket sales going back to the Vancouver Pride Society (you know, the people that bring us the parade each year). March's movie hadn't been announced by the time we pulled our list together but we're pretty sure it will be fabulous! Vist the group's Facebook page for more information.

THURSDAY, 1 March: The LOLA Projects

Shift Happens for gay Victoria choreographer and dancer Robert Halley as one of four solo performers at this yearly dance event that makes its first appearance in Vancouver. Visit http://www.thedancecentre.ca for more information.

FRIDAY, 2 March: VSO: Wicked Divas

New York Pops Music Director Steven Reineke conducts the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra along with Emily Rozek and Julia Murney, two stars of the long-running Broadway show Wicked. The concert features selections from such Broadway shows as Ragtime, Titanic, The Wizard of Oz, Wicked ... and even a selection from Monty Python's Spamalot! SATURDAY, 3 March: Vancouver International Dance Festival

The team that brings you Apocalypstick at The Cobalt present an East Van drag competition over three Sundays in March. Drag queen and king candidates will compete over the course of three Sundays in March for prizes and the title of Mr or Miss Cobalt.
