MONDAY, 27 February: Intimate ApparelDescribed by our theatre reviewer as "a timeless and heart-felt tribute to a grandmother" this Arts Club presentation tells the story of Esther, an African-American woman in 1905 New York who has been supporting her dream of opening a beauty parlor by sewing undergarments for women at every rung of the socio-economic ladder. After receiving a letter from a suitor laboring on the Panama Canal, the illiterate Esther enlists the help of two of her clients, a lonely socialist and a prostitute, to begin her romantic correspondence. This extra day in 2012 means Pride Movie Night at the Denman Cinemas. This monthly LGBTQ movie screening sees half of all ticket sales going back to the Vancouver Pride Society (you know, the people that bring us the parade each year).
