We try to shake things up with our picks of things to do in Vancouver for the coming week. We think we've managed an even better cross-section than usual this week. Here are our gay choices for November 21 - 27, 2011. Of course, you'll want to check our Events Calendar for details of all the latest happenings around the city. You can also get our daily events feed directly on your iGoogle homepage! Got an event? Send us the details and we'll get it added to our calendar (and maybe see it listed here in the coming weeks). MONDAY, 21 November: The Distance Between You And MeWe've decided that Mondays are great for art and since we like to go big around here our first choice was the Vancouver Art Gallery. The Distance Between You and Me presents works from contemporary artists from Vancouver (Isabelle Pauwels), Los Angeles (Kerry Tribe) and Guadalajara (Gonzalo Lebrijathe), dealing with the ideas of location and dislocation in both a geographical and psychological sense. Some pretty heady stuff but with the multi-media nature of the exhibit it has us intrigued. Visit http://www.vanartgallery.bc.ca for more information. Looking for something else to do today? They’ve blasted past the decade mark, released three acclaimed albums, and indisputably owned more than a thousand shows in over 25 countries. Now of course we would be lying if we said we didn't make this pick because we gave away tickets to their show but to be honest when we heard they were from Sweden that clinched it for us. Tickets are still available online or by calling 1-855-985-5000. Looking for something else to do today? Visit our online events calendar! WEDNESDAY, 23 November: The 13th ChairLangara's Studio 58 presents this quirky little comedy written 95 years ago and released as both a silent film and a 'talkie" in 1929. Under the fine direction of Sarah Rodgers this comedy thriller from a different time shows none of its age. We couldn't help but think of it as Agatha Christie meets Colombo. Visit http://www.studio58.ca for tickets and information. Looking for something else to do today? Visit our online events calendar! THURSDAY, 24 November: Timberline DanceContrary to popular belief the urban cowboy is not dead. Join Timberline Dance as they not only open up the dance foor for the two-step and tush push but they'll even give you a little lesson at the beginning of the night and then set you free to hone your skills. A portion of the sliding $10 donation at the door benefits A Loving Spoonful in Vancouver. Visit http://www.timberlinedance.org for more information. Looking for something else to do today? FRIDAY, 25 November: The Red NocturnalGay choreographer Joshua Beamish and the dancers of his MOVE: the company are back home after a world-wind tour that saw them in New York, Bangkok and Montreal. In addition to a re-imagined version of The Red Nocturnal, a physically demanding tango ballet en pointe, Beamish and his dancers present two other dances including Beamish's newest creation Atonement. Tickets are available online at http://www.voguetheatre.com. Looking for something else to do today? Visit our online events calendar! SATURDAY, 26 November: 18th Annual Art For LifeBuild your art collection and join us for an evening of art-inspired performances, cocktail-style bites, sweet treats and libations. With an exciting private concert by Vancouver's own Bif Naked, this is the art event of the season you will not want to miss! The 18th Annual Art For Life Fine Art Auction and reception will showcase a collection of 90 artworks valued close to $200,000, donated by Vancouver's top artists and galleries. 100% of art sales benefit the Vancouver Friends For Life Society. Visit http://www.artforlife.net for more information. SUNDAY, 27 November: Penny PlainGay pupeteer Ronnie Burkett returns to The Cultch with his newest creation, Penny Plain. This gothic thriller marks an "end to civilization," with the blind Penny Plain waiting for the world to end as a stampede of oddball characters seek sanctuary in her boarding house. If you haven't seen what Burkett can do with his marionettes you owe yourself to check out this show. Visit http://www.thecultch.com for more information. Looking for something else to do today?
