We're squeezing in a couple of parties, some dance lessons, the crowning of the new Mr Miss Ms Gay Vancouver and a South Asian celebration into another diverse week here in Vancouver.  Here are our gay choices for October 10 - 16, 2011.

MONDAY, 10 October: Visions Of Vancouver

For those that missed it, Vancouver is celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2011 with celebrations happening throughout the year.  One of the more interesting (at least to us) is Pi Theatre's series of four new short plays written by five of Vancouver’s most exciting contemporary playwrights - Dennis Foon, Kevin Loring, Adrienne Wong Michele Riml and Michael St. John Smith - expressing their unique vision of Vancouver.  For tickets and information visit http://www.pitheatre.com.

TUESDAY, 11 October: Not So Strictly Ballroom Dance Classes

Vancouver's same-sex ballroom dance club offers Tuesday evening classes through November.  Having taken the Cha Cha classes ourselves a couple years back we can tell you it is a fun way to meet new people and to learn a few cool moves.  This Tuesday night series features a "sampler" course featuring the Jive, Waltz & Cha Cha (our personal fave) and beginner Argentine Tango (the really, really sexy kind).  They also offer Saturday morning classes.  Visit http://www.notsostrictlyballroom.ca for more information.

WEDNESDAY, 12 October: Steel Magnolias

With lines like "Honey, time marches on and eventually you realize it is marchin' across your face" you'd think it was a night out with the local drag queens. But what you really get is Truvy’s beauty parlour in Chinquapin, Louisiana in the Richmond Gateway Theatre production of Steel Magnolias.  Directed by Nicola Cavendish and with set design by local gay designer Drew Facey, you just know it will be all southern charm. FRIDAY, 14 October: Village People Pre-Halloween Party

SATURDAY, 15 October: Mr MIss Ms Gay Vancouver Pageant

Rhinestone Phoenix Charity Mr Miss Ms Gay Vancouver Pageant

Back for the 32nd year, the Rhinestone Phoenix Charity Foundation hosts the annual Mr, Miss, Ms Gay Vancouver Pageant at the Empire Landmark Hotel.  With its theme of "A Glitz and Glam Red Carpet Affair" this will definitely be a night to remember as they bid adieu to Mr. Gay Vancouver XXXI Ben Dover and Ms. Gay Vancouver XXXI Babette Co-Taylor and crown Mr./Ms./Miss Gay Vancouver XXXII.  Tickets are $25 each at Little Sisters or Priape.

SUNDAY, 16 October: Diwali Downton

With one of the largest South Asian communities in Canada, Diwali Downtown showcases the best of classical and contemporary South Asian arts and culture with dance, music, food, crafts, comedy, film, visual arts and more, with plenty of new and exciting interactive events for young and old.
