Vancouver Sisters are seeking artwork for condom campaign

The Vancouver Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are seeking submissions of visual art for an upcoming condom campaign.

The Vancouver Sisters, part of the international order of 21st century queer nuns, are looking for digital and traditional art that best represents their theme of "sex positivity".  Three finalists will be chosen from among the submissions and will have their art featured on condom packages that will be part of an upcoming campaign.

"The Sisters are all about fun that is healthy and informed," said Novice Sister Sweet Cherribum in a recent press release. "Keeping in tradition with Orders around the world, the YVR Sisters will be creating condom packages that educate, encourage, and entertain safer sex techniques. The packages will include information on how to negotiate safer sex and practical advice on how to take care of yourself and your partners."

While the theme for submissions is "sex positivity", the Sisters are encouraging art that takes inspiration from artistic styles usually associated with religious imagery.

In addition to having their artwork featured on the condom packages, finalists will also have an opportunity to win cash and other prizes.

Entries will be judged according to artistic merit, creativity, and interpretation of the theme and winners will be announced at the Queer Arts Festival closing party on Saturday, August 18, 2012.
