Founded on December 1st, 2009 marking the 21st annual World AIDS Day, Project Flaming Heart announced that it will build an addictions treatment centre for the glbt+ community in Canada based in the Metro Vancouver area.
According to founder Brent WildeFyre, several individuals have been identified as candidates for a steering committee for Project Flaming Heart, including a Medical Director, and an announcement is expected in mid-January. The first phase capital campaign is also expected to begin in early 2010 with the goal to raise $10,000 for the phase one recovery house to open. WildeFyre reigned as Mr. Gay Vancouver XXIX from 2008-2009, and, with Ms. Gay Vancouver XXIX Jackie A Go-Go, was the first elected representative of the glbt+ community introduced in the B.C. legislature.
