Founded on December 1st, 2009 marking the 21st annual World AIDS Day, Project Flaming Heart announced that it will build an addictions treatment centre for the glbt+ community in Canada based in the Metro Vancouver area.

Project Flaming HeartThe project has been structured in six phases: the first phase is a recovery house specializing in men, the second phase is a recovery house specializing in women, and the third phase is a recovery house specializing in transgendered patients. The fourth phase is the addiction treatment centre, and the fifth phase is an eating disorders treatment centre. The sixth and final phase is establishing locations across Canada.

According to founder Brent WildeFyre, several individuals have been identified as candidates for a steering committee for Project Flaming Heart, including a Medical Director, and an announcement is expected in mid-January.  The first phase capital campaign is also expected to begin in early 2010 with the goal to raise $10,000 for the phase one recovery house to open.

WildeFyre reigned as Mr. Gay Vancouver XXIX from 2008-2009, and, with Ms. Gay Vancouver XXIX Jackie A Go-Go, was the first elected representative of the glbt+ community introduced in the B.C. legislature.
