GayVancouver.Net (Gay Vancouver Online) is joining forces with the Vancouver who’s who of the Twitter world during Twestival 2009 on Saturday, September 12, 2009. This year's Vancouver Twestival participants have chosen the BC Children's Hospital Foundation's Campaign for Children campaign as the recipient of 100% of the funds raised during the event.

TwitterA Twestival or Twitter-Festival is a global series of events organized by volunteers around the world brining people offline for a great cause. Twestivals will take place in dozens of cities around the world between 10-13 September 2009 including Buenos Aires, Argentina; Sydney, Australia; Beijing, China; Bangalore, India; Beirut, Lebanon; London, England; and ten other cities in Canada including Vancouver.

"With the ever-increasing use of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter this is a great way to meet other Twitterers, those that follow our Twitter streams, have some fun, and raise much needed funds for a local charity," said Mark Robins who twitters for GayVancouver.Net (Gay Vancouver Online).

"We like Twitter because of its instantaneous reach," continued Robins. "For example, we twittered live from the recent Vancouver Pride Parade and Vancouver Queer Film Festival and more recently sent photos and insights to our followers, and our website, while we enjoyed a day at the PNE".

Of course, trying to get one's message across in only 140 characters, the limit of a single "tweet", can be challenging at times. "We took a ride on the PNE'S wooden rollercoaster last weekend and wanted to share that experience on Twitter as soon as we came to a stop," said Robins. "Trying to find the right words to describe the ride in those so few characters was definitely a challenge, as was our experience in taste-testing the Fair's deep fried Mars Bars and deep fried Oreos."

This year's Vancouver Twestival is once again being organized by the Grand Lady of Vancouver's social media, Miss 604. The woman behind Miss 604, Rebecca Bollwitt, is one of Vancouver's best known online blogger and twitterer. The local Twestival will feature a raffle of donated prizes and a silent auction with 100% of the funds raised going directly to support the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation Campaign for Children.
