August may be prime beach time but, for Vancouverites, the biggest party of the summer happens after the kids go back to school. September 12 marks Davie Day 2009, the West End Business Improvement Association (WEBIA)’s sixth annual celebration of the history, culture and creativity of Vancouver’s West End.

Jones and his band of funnies have hit the national stage, or should I say national television, when the group's own brand of queer comedy improv, Tops and Bottoms, debuts on OutTV in the fall.

It's hard to believe that five years have already passed since the re-launch of Celebrities, a Vancouver institution in the gay community.  With the closure of the nightclub in 1999 after being condemned, this iconic dance club for Vancouver's gay and lesbian community actually has its roots as a nightclub back to 1910.  It was in the early 80s though before it became a gay nightclub.

The City of Vancouver announced the twelve members of the LGBTQ Advisory Committee whose mandate is to enhance access to full participation in City services for the LGBTQ communities.

According to Vancouver's Queer History Project, "queer history is often marginalized, unrecorded, forgotten or lost. Many of us come out and join queer communities without ever having had a chance to learn about the queers who came before us-their lives, their struggles, their parties, their heroes, their secrets..."
