With its first concert of 2010 taking place on January 23rd, we thought it would be a great time to highlight one of our community's numerous arts organizations, the Vancouver Gay and Lesbian Choir.
An inclusive, non-auditioned choir, the Vancouver Gay and Lesbian Choir welcomes members of all orientations and levels of ability. The choir performs two major concerts each season as well as several outreach performances both within and outside the Metro Vancouver area. We are men and women who enjoy singing together. Committed to high musical standards, we celebrate our lives and sense of community. We believe our visibility strengthens all of us and fosters understanding among people. The Vancouver Gay and Lesbian Choir, like a number of other Vancouver GLBTQ organizations, trace their history back to Gay Games III held locally in 1990. As the Games came to a close in 1990, the founding members of the choir met to discuss starting a permanent, openly lesbian and gay chorus in Vancouver. By September of that same year the first rehearsal took place.
