The Vancouver Friends for Life Society began delivering massage and hot meals to people with HIV/AIDS during the epidemic in the 1990s. Today, Friends for Life provides some 50 different therapies for individuals in the palliative stages of illness.
In 1995 Friends for Life opened its Diamond Centre For Living in Vancouver’s West End and has been providing a "home-like" environment in delivering its various programs. With some 50 different therapies that include naturopathic and Chinese medicines, counselling, nutrition programs and in-home support for individuals in the palliative stages of illness, Friends for Life provides all of its services on a complimentary basis to members. Membership in the Society is open to British Columbia residents who are 19+ years old and living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, or other qualifying life-threatening illnesses that have been diagnosed and referred by a licensed B.C. physician. Friends For Life relies on 50% of its funding through its various annual, weekly and special events that include Dining Out For Life (March), Art For Life (November) and the weekly Bingo For Life at Celebrities Nightclub that has raised over $275,000 since it began.
