Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses. Just not your same-sex couples. So it goes in America’s ongoing battle with the tinkering of the marriage definition.  Filmmaker Jim VanDeventer explores the impact of US State ballot measures, including Prop 8 in California, on four couples in their documentary short, Love Exiled which plays as part of From Coast to Coast is Queer at the 2010 Vancouver Queer Film Festival.

Canadians take on Prop 8 in festival short

With Prop 8, California’s same-sex marriage ballot measure in the news lately, the timing for Love Exiled from filmmaker’s Roger Chin and Jim VanDeventer couldn’t be better.  Chronicling the stories of four same-sex couples from the United States who immigrated to Canada to have their relationships fully recognized, the short plays as part of From Coast to Coast is Queer at the 2010 Vancouver Queer Film Festival.

"Strange mash-up" influences Aaron Chan's work

We don’t know of many 22 year olds that are listed in IMDB, but for filmmaker and pianist Aaron Chan his young career has already garnered him no less than seven entries in his online listing.  And now, adding to his growing filmography, Chan returns to the Vancouver Queer Film Festival with his newest short Stay, as part of The Coast is Queer.

3G: Cal Garingan explores the online dating world

Vancouver filmmaker Cal Garingan not only has his MFA in film and television production, he also claims to have a PhD in online dating. Looking to put both of his degrees to good use, Garingan has combined his dating stories with his film prowess in his short Waiting 4 Goliath, which plays as part of The Coast is Queer and Cross Cultural Romance at the 2010 Vancouver Queer Film Festival.

Festival celebrates youth with gala and party
