Review: Fucking Stephen Harper - substance behind the attention getting title

While perhaps a tad salacious in its title (the full title of this Fringe show is Fucking Stephen Harper: How I Sexually Assaulted the 22nd Prime Minister of Canada), Rob Salerno’s one-man PowerPoint is a funny rant without benefit of a laugh track.

Interspersed with Salerno’s outrageous (and some would say unprofessional) quest for an interview with Stephen Harper during the 2008 federal election is a political commentary that, while focusing primarily on the federal Conservatives, leaves no side of the Canadian political spectrum untouched. Even Barack Obama goes under Salerno’s razor sharp anti-homophobic knife.

For queers in the audience Salerno’s call-to-arms is summed up quite nicely in his warning not to fuck with our community ... at least not without a safe word.

Our exit polls indicate that a number of audience members were there simply because of the show’s name. Fortunately, while that may have gotten them into their seats, there is substance behind the attention getting title.
